Vardenafil

How Does Levitra Work

Penile erection is a hemodynamic process initiated by the relaxation of smooth muscle in the corpus cavernosum and its associated arterioles. During sexual stimulation, nitric oxide is released from nerve endings and endothelial cells in the corpus cavernosum. Nitric oxide activates the enzyme guanylate cyclase resulting in increased synthesis of cyclic guanosine monophosphate in the smooth muscle cells of the corpus cavernosum. The cGMP in turn triggers smooth muscle relaxation, allowing increased blood flow into the penis, resulting in erection.

In the past few years, a new class of drug has been developed to help men with ED (erectile dysfunction). ED (erectile dysfunction) used to be blamed on psychological factors. However, with drugs like Levitra, we now know that erectile dysfunction is largely a physical problem. Problems like diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and and simple old age can cause difficulties in getting and maintaining an erection. Levitra doesn't cure ED. You take Levitra right before you want to have sex. Within about an hour you are better able to get an erection, and the effect wears off a few hours after that.

* Breathing problem

Can this medicine affect other medicines

Vardenafil must not be taken with any form of nitrate medication, as this combination may potentially produce a severe drop in blood pressure. Nitrate medications include the following:
* glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate, isosorbide dinitrate, used for angina or heart failure
* nicorandil
* amyl nitrate
Vardenafil should not be taken in combination with other treatments for erectile dysfunction.
